Team Mopar in Atlanta! Sam Hubinette and Chris Cook Demo!

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Well Tunerfest was this weekend which is a little event in coordination with the drag strip, Hayes Dodge (number one seller of Mopar in the USA), and importatlanta.com. So we had an off weekend from travel and came out to visit with Sam Hubinette in the Mopar/Dodge/BFGoodrich Charger and Chris Cook in his Shift Into Gear Dodge Viper. They put on some killer demo’s, here are some snaps from the pits.

Here is the Charger.

Here is Chris Cook getting the car ready for more demo’s. Note the tape on the rear quarter panel, Chris blew his rear tire in the first demo and it sheered off the rear quarter paneling on the car! It was quite a site to see.

In closing it was a great weekend and we got a chance to do some great interviews with them that will be coming out soon! These guys are both great and I hope they stay around in the sport for a long time. Here is a picture with Sam Hubinette and the promoter of the event Paul Firestine!

Update on Nick Hogan

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I got informed earlier that Nick Hogan is out of the hospital now. I spoke with a few people that have talked to him and he has a broken arm and is very sore he said. He is at the hospital at his friend (the passenger) side while he recovers. Hopefully John makes a quick recovery from the incident.

Right as I finished writing this I came across this on CNN as well.

“A representative answering the patient information line at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, said Nick Bollea, 17, had been discharged. Bollea is the son of Hogan, whose real name is Terrence Bollea.

Bollea’s passenger in the Sunday crash, John Graziano, 22, remained in critical condition at Bayfront on Monday afternoon, said hospital spokeswoman Nancy Waite.

“Nick is currently at the hospital with John and his family,” said Bollea’s mother, Linda Hogan, in a statement. “His sole concern is for the well-being of his friend. On behalf of my family, we ask that your thoughts and prayers be with John and his loved ones.” ”

Team Orange with a Mitsbuishi Evo VIII

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Well Ebisu was this weekend in Japan and Kumakubo came out in a Evo!!!!!!!! Crazy I tell you, these guys at Team Orange don’t play around. I couldn’t find much information other than this guys blog Reference Link so I cannot take credit for this but thought you guys might like to see it!

Team Orange Evo VIII

Ebisu Premiere of Team Orange Evo

Here is the text from the blog on how the Evo did!

“This past weekend was round 5 of the D1GP @ Ebisu Circuit. Kumakubo Nobushige used this event at his home course to unleash his new FR Converted Lancer Evolution. I still haven’t seen a full report of the event yet, but he managed to finish 8th overall, which is great considering the new machine. What is even more impressive is that he brought out the new car in the middle of a tight battle between him and Kawabata Masato for the D1 Championship. This serves as a testament to both Kumakubo’s driving and to Koyama-san and the crew at JUN Auto for building a competitive car. I found a couple pictures taken by some fans of the new machine. (I do not take any credit for them) Option/D1 should be updating their website with complete coverage soon, so keep an eye out for it. By the way, Nomura Ken won the Ebisu event, it’s good to see him back at the top after struggling earlier in the season.”

Speedy Recovery to Nick Hogan!

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

For those of you that haven’t heard, around 8:00pm tonight (3 hours ago) Nick Hogan and a friend got in an accident on Court Street outside downtown Clearwater, Florida in Nick’s Toyota Supra. Nick Hogan is part of the Drifting family and has been a great supporter of Slide America and we want to wish him a speedy recovery and a thanks! Hopefully he is able to get back to full health and back out on the track in no time.

The news reports about what happened are very contradicting as of now so we aren’t really sure on Nick’s current condition. I did however see some pictures of the car on the ground and it looks horrible. We hope that Nick and his passenger recover to 100% very soon.

Who’s idea was it to be in Canada during hockey off season?

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Like seriously who books these gigs? Canada is only good for two things, hockey and beer and no NHL teams are playing during the summer. Luckily Mark from PAS Magazine’s condo was clutch because instead of a kitchen table he had this…….

Go hockey table

As you can see this game simulated a great Canadian classic…..Ottawa Senators Vs. Toronto Maple Leafs! If you have to ask who won you must not know enough about hockey, Go Heatly, Speeza, Emery! So many constant battles on the sticks made me get over my hockey cravings. Mark kept giving me this good beer that said Made in India claiming it was Canadian but I wasn’t buying it! Another off topic note, they don’t have the iphone in Canada and I had several people like accost me over mine asking if they could take pictures with it……it’s a wonder Americans stereotypically think Canadians are weirdo’s. We hit up an awesome lifestyle shop in Buffalo in our free time as well called Krudmart in Buffalo, RJ over at Krudmart gave me free stuff, so he earned himself a free plug back on the blog. I am going to post more pictures now…..I am getting bad at making these long winded……

Friday night we went with Mark to an event called Cravefest? The first annual music festival that was important and exciting I guess blah blah? It was pretty fun and the vibe was cool but their were just a ton of artist walking around the VIP upstairs with awards and these glass trophies and I didn’t know who any of them were, so I was just generally confused but I do remember the event was sponsored by Jagermeister!

CraveFest in Toronto

So the next morning we crawl out of bed (or I was sleeping on the living room floor on a mattress built out of leather couch cushions?) Don’t ask please. Well regardless we arrived at Downsview Park to see some Canadian Drifting! Luckily the Drift Alliance made the hike across the pond to throw the great American party and throw the Canadian National Handstand contest (more on this later).

Drift Alliance at Drift Mania!

They made the weekend that much more fun which shouldn’t shock anyone that knows them personally or has seen their heavy.com videos. Let’s talk about some nitty gritty competition here though, we had one American come out to represent the red, white, and blue and destroy some Canadian Drifters! This man was MA-Motorsports Brian in the “Zombie Car” as Matt Petty kept yelling all weekend. I know Brian from when we filmed Slide America in Englishtown and I’ve seen him rip it up so I was excited to see how he would wind up doing with this competition.

Just gunning for trophies

Brian killed it and wound up in second place behind one of the Kenji Yaminaka lookalike Hankook Skyline R32’s, pretty sure it was Jean-Sebastian Lefleur in the Yakuza/Hankook car who took home first place. It was really a treat to see some guys like Marcos Santos Drifting.

Drift Mania

Well big thanks to Edmund, Sophia (who I harassed several times about media credentials that she kindly ended up giving me even though I never applied for), Drift Mania, Drift Mania staff, Downsview Park, Drift Alliance, Montye for selling it up, and the border patrol for letting us back into the States!

One last great treasure of the weekend…..for those of you that have watched the movie, Matt Petty describes MA Brian as the man “just gunning for trophies….” and ever time I see him that is all I ever think about because it’s hilarious. So I had to take the oppurtunity to take this picture for the blog!

No Trophy? No care!

Drift Mania!!!!!!!

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Yea we are leaving in like four hours and I haven’t packed or done crap. Stop 1: KrudMart Stop 2: The Border Stop 3: Performance Auto Sound Magazine. Hopefully Mark didn’t steal our DVD’s and then who knows what is going down. Full report coming soon! I am going to pack…..

Cipher Garage now in our store!

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Cipher Garage is the original crew of hardcore AE86ers in the United States. The members of Cipher Garage are all about Classic Car Soul. We continue seek the cleanest, rarest, most original, and most unique looking Vintage Toyota cars for the collection. Our goal is not to just be a part of the scene, but to stand apart from the crowd.

Cipher Garage has a clothing line, which was obviously started by people who have a passion for AE86s and 86 LIFE, which is a term that we coined to describe the lifestyle that we lead- a lifestyle which was built around the cars and drifting culture that we are so passionate about. At the same time, we grew up around the culture of hip hop music, with a reverence for graffiti art, underground mixtapes, customized sneakers and street fashion.

Kazuhiro Tanaka (Team Orange Subaru D1GP Driver) and winner of the 2007 D1 Vs. The World at Irwindale Speedway! He is rocking the shirt you can find in our store today!

Cipher Garage takes inspiration from everything we love about AE86s, drifting culture and 1970s/1980s era Japanese musclecars - things like negative offset wheels, drift team stickers, stretched tires, vintage steering wheels and carburetors. Cipher Garage blends these iconic images of vintage Japanese car culture with stylish colorways and graphics to appeal to those who also have the same appreciation of the graffiti and sneaker culture we grew up with.

Think Different, Think Unique. Think CIPHER GARAGE.
Be sure to pick up two of the hottest Cipher Garage shirts currently in our store!

Formula D: Sears Point, California

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Well let’s start with the basics…….the temperature in Atlanta when we left was about 102 degrees (not including humidity). The temperature upon landing at SFO was like 58 degrees. The weather pretty much kicked my ass and now I am sick :(. The weekend was a blast though. We landed and headed to downtown to swing by Mark’s store on Post called Fatlace.

After leaving Fatlace we headed up to Sonoma. The fog on the 101 was insane, here is us crossing the Golden Gate Bridge.

Formula D was pretty wild. The Drift Alliance ended up taking home first and second place which was just crazy! The best image of the weekend has to be Calvin Wan’s Infiniti G35. Calvin was looking good till this accident in qualifying, I am sure it was extra frustrating for him being that this was his home track.

Me on the sidelines……hard at work or hardly working?

Somehow I lived to wake up another day after eating this………Go animal style or go home!

Overall Sonoma was a great time, cannot wait to go crazy in Toronto at Drift Mania this weekend! Time to get wasted off more root beer with Mark from PAS Magazine.
